Friday Fashion find: Kuyichi jeans

My favourite pair of jeans are these by Kuyichi.

They are super comfy, easy to wear and a perfect fit. Even better they are an eco-friendly company, with all Kuyichi’s clothing being made organically and with fair trade. Truly “Style Conscious”

Check out their clothes on their online store 🙂

The Empowerment Plan

The Empowerment Plan

An inspiring example of how design and entrepreneurial thinking can make a positive social impact from the Detroit based Empowerment Plan, started by Veronika Scott, a 24 year old entrepreneur and product designer. Veronika has designed a a coat that turns into a sleeping bag for the homeless. But its more than that. She has created an organisation employs women that are homeless and sleeping in shelters, providing them with and income and hope. As she describes a woman once told her “coats are pointless we need jobs.”

It reminds me of a quote from Mohammad Yanus “when I see a problem I create a business to solve it.”

Scott Harrison: Thirsting for a Life of Service

Great talk at Ecorner from Scott Harrison of Charity: Water, an organisation that is innovating the non profit sector. The 100% model, they use where 100% of donations go to building safe water projects, which are tracked and each person receives a report on where the money’s gone and can also track it online. They are using technology to connect and to inform. From their fun looking fundraising party to their use of twitter and other online platforms to promote things such as giving up your birthday to raise money. The administrative aspects are funded through other fundraising.
