Morning Pages

Morning pages

Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning. There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages– they are not high art. They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only

Julia Cameron- The Artists Way

Discovered this through Elle Luna. It sounds quite interesting.

I think she once called it “brain drain,” and that’s a really wonderful description of how it feels. It only takes about fifteen minutes, and through the daily ritual of writing, you move mental clutter out of your mind and onto the page.

Elle Luna

I’m going to give it a go with my daily journal.  I will add everything that’s running through my head. Although It definitely wont be three pages long!

Sounds very therapeutic

Reminds me of:

Alain de Bottons nightly writing practice, where he just gets all the thoughts out of his head and on paper.

Tiffany Shlain does something similar at the start of her family’s weekly Shabbat (a technology free day).

Jessica Hische on Your Dreams My Nightmare

I Love Jessica Hische. My knowledge of typography is tiny but her sense of humour is so brilliant and really comes out in her work. I totally feel like we could be friends!
Here she speaks to Sam Weber on his podcast Your Dreams my Nightmares an audio side project.
The interview has so many insights whatever field you are in.

The difference between a job, career and calling- Elle Luna on Design Matters

I first learned about Elle Luna (such a great name) reading about the 100 days Project on The Great Discontent. https://thegreatdiscontent.com/100days. A 100 days of making.
This podcast with Debbie Millman is wide ranging but I particularly liked hearing Elle talk about finding what you love to do, work work and fun work.

The tensions of the modern soul + Alain de Botton and Tim Ferriss chat

I’ve been sending this podcast with Alain de Botton with Tim Ferriss to so many people. It’s just full of so much wisdom.
It’s quite long although shorter than watching a blockbuster :).
The wide discussion covers the tension of the modern soul, the glamour of science, spreading ideas, philosophy and loads more.

Co dependence, creativity and pain- Whitney Cummings on Four Hour Work Week

alt= Whitney Cummings Whitney Cummings
I don’t know much about Whitney Cummings work but she is hilarious and super honest. This podcast on the Tim Ferriss Four Hour Work Week is just brilliant!
Hearing Whitney speak of co dependence was like listening to a description of myself. She explained that it’s not just about clinginess and wanting to please people but it can also be a way of over committing yourself to others.
I learned to put my least favourite/ hardest things at the start of the day. Then it’s out of the way and you don’t feel guilty!
Nuggets;
“Cultivate your voice” if you think about something more than three times a week, write about it.
